What better way to kick off the summer and get outdoors than National Get Outdoors Day on June 14th?
Summer is traditionally a time for children to go outside and explore, keeping their minds and bodies active. The summer has become an increasingly crucial time for kids to gain knowledge about the outside world, due to the fact that environmental education has been pushed aside in many schools in favor of other priorities.
National Get Outdoors Day is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Participating partners like the U.S. Forest Service, American Recreation Coalition, National Wildlife Federation and many others will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors.
Find the location nearest to you! This event is going to be celebrated at more than 45 locations across the United States. At these National Get Outdoors Day events you and your children will be able to play games, interact with local wildlife, and learn about new and exciting ways to enjoy the great outdoors.
If you can’t participate in an official event, then why not plan your own special celebration? June 14th could be a great day to take a family bike ride, visit a local park, or plant a vegetable garden that you can enjoy all summer long.
